Prior Event Highlights

On April 15, 2010, members and friends of Ewha gathered at The Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey to celebrate 40 years of committed, compassionate work by the International Foundation for Ewha Womans University.

At this meaningful event, a slide presentation of the foundation’s history was presented to appraise the growth and revalue the original purpose and meaning of the foundation. Also, the Helen Kim Heritage Society and Leadership Society members were recognized and honored with the Alice Appenzeller Award. To brighten up the event, Mezzo-soprano HyoNa Kim, a Ewha graduate who became one of the finalists of the 2010 Metropolitan Opera National Council, gave a wonderful vocal performance of Shin Arirang and Mon Coeur s’ouvre a ta voix.

The gathering’s presentations began with Bishop Sharon Z. Rader offering an Invocation & Welcome, and Dr. Soon-Young Yoon presided as Master of Ceremonies throughout. Following the slide presentation on the Foundation’s history, the Helen Kim Leadership Society was introduced by Dr. Hai Won Chang and the Helen Kim Heritage Society was introduced by Dr. Ben Bumsun Lee. In closing, Dr. David Vikner, President of United Board for CHEIA, offered a toast to those assembled.

As Foundation President Bishop Sharon Zimmerman Rader described, the dinner was “an almost perfect evening — the weather was lovely, the country club setting was beautiful, the reception was delightful, the dinner was delicious, the musical program exquisite — and most importantly the fellowship with all those present was truly wonderful.”

Thanks to the dedication of the attendees and the supporters who were unable to attend, the donation reached a total of $96,825, along with pledged Helen Kim Leadership gift of about $450,000. Dr. Hwain Lee and her husband Dr. William Lee generously covered the dinner and beverage as well as the printing expenses for the event’s luxurious program book. The undesignated income from this event will be the initial gift of Sharon Zimmerman Rader Scholarship Fund with a goal of $100,000 to be utilized for summer school, international study for students from North America (non Korean-American/ Canadian).
